Restaurant Ides Opens Tonight 16th March 2016, Melbourne.

After spending the last 9 years working in Melbourne’s most acclaimed restaurants, Ides marks Gunn’s very first restaurant.

Seating 36 guests, Ides will open from Wednesday to Sunday, dinner only. The single menu will offer 6 courses (4 savoury and 2 sweet) with alternatives for dietary requirements. Wines and drinks will be matched to Ides menu by sommelier/ restaurant manager, Raffaele Mastrovincenzo.

The menu at Ides will include dishes like orange tomatoes & green olives, a dish that contains apple vinegar soaked currents, sea blight, green olive sauce, sliced pickled chilli and olive plant or pork neck & fennel, pumpkin & watercress served with a BBQ pumpkin sauce, chorizo paste, watercress, toasted fennel seeds & anise vinaigrette.  Pineapple cooked in maple syrup served with ginger ice cream and mint will be typical of the desserts.  These dishes are only an example of the Ides menu however, as Gunn’s kitchen is driven by an ever-changing energy that keeps him and his team moving and adapting the offering on a continuous basis.  That raw energy in the food is what the Ides team wishes to share with their guests as the kitchen team deliver the dishes direct to the table personally.  The restaurant layout also plays a roll, as guest must walk through the kitchen pass and are encouraged to say hi or stop and chat in this intimate friendly restaurant.

Celebrating small producers and unique wineries, Raffaele’s wine selection adapts daily to Peter Gunn’s ever changing cuisine and often the wine itself can become an inspiration for a dish.

The team at Ides will also continue to challenge itself by introducing ‘One Day Sunday’– a selection of monthly dinners that will have no association with the usual restaurant offering.  Once a month, on a Sunday they will reinvent the whole venue and create a totally different dining experience each month.
