Revolting 11-hour flight sitting in urine-soaked seat

When a male passenger on a British Airways intercontinental flight expressed disgust after discovering that a previous passenger had urinated all over his seat, cabin crew gave him a wet wipe to soak up the problem as best as possible.

“I can’t sit here,” Andrew Wilkinson, 39, told flight attendants on the flight from the UK to South Africa – but in the end he had to. Wilkinson says he had no choice but to sit in a seat covered in urine. According to a report on 9 News, he paid the equivalent of AUD 1900 for the flight.

Wilkinson says he alerted cabin crew to the state of his seat immediately after boarding and a cabin crew member agreed the seat had been urinated on by a previous passenger.

“She went to the toilet and came back with some wipes and expected me to clean up the mess myself,” a shocked Wilkinson told The Mail on Sunday.

The flight attendant found the whole thing amusing, Wilkinson said. He eventually put a plastic bag over the seat and covered it with a blanket.

After Wilkinson complained on social media about his experience BA apologised and offered him complimentary air miles and an offer to upgrade to business class on his next journey to Cape Town, according to the report.

“We were very concerned to hear about this and have been in touch with our customer to apologise and make amends,” British Airways said in an issued statement.

The union that represents British Airways flight crews claims the complaint indicates falling standards aboard the carrier.
