Even amongst the world’s toughest, muddiest and most challenging competitions, Malaysia’s RFC Rainforest Challenge is a genuine standout – and a heart-stopping, adrenaline fuelled spectacle to boot.
World renowned as one of the largest – and toughest, 4×4 off-road races, the 500 mile course takes participants through the picturesque jungle of the Rembau District over six grueling days which wreak havoc, not only the drivers, but also on the especially designed vehicles.
Commencing in Perak, the event sees competitors navigate virtually untouched trails through dense rainforest, first to Pahang, and then south to Johor, traversing almost half of mainland Malaysia in the process.
Not for the fainthearted, drivers must contend with tropical storms, while manoeuvring vehicles along ever-changing, steep, muddy paths, slippery slopes, deep ruts, plentiful gullies and flooded rivers, not to mention the occasional landslide – all with one goal – the be crowned the 2016 4×4 offroad champion.
The race kicks off on 24 November 2016 with an exciting program of pre-challenge activities, and wraps up in Johor on 5 December. Attracting tourists and motoring enthusiasts from right around the world, spectators can watch all the adrenalin pumping action via hubs housed throughout the various cities and towns lying along the 500-mile long route – enabling them to enjoy front row seats, without being the middle of the jungle.
More than 150 participants from more than 30 different countries are expected to take part in this year’s Challenge, accompanied by a huge entourage of supporters and sporting enthusiasts.
