The second Ride for Hope pedalled off from Shangri-La Hotel, Guilin on 3 January 2015. Eight riders who committed to ride from Guilin to Hong Kong in seven days rode out of Guilin accompanied by a group local cyclists. The charity project has collected RMB776, 000 in donations.

As the starting point the seven-day ride, Shangri-La Hotel, Guilin has organised 50 local volunteer cyclists to ride with the eight core team riders organised by Futian Shangri-La, Shenzhen; Shangri-La Hotel, Guangzhou; Kowloon Shangri-La, Hong Kong; and Shangri-La Hotel, Guilin. The eight riders are expected to arrive at the finishing point in Hong Kong on 9 January 2015.

The eight riders are riding unified Specialized Bicycles and accompanied by two SUVs supported by DS Company. The two SUVs offering mechanical support and medical assistance will trail the eight riders throughout the journey.

With the goal to collect money for the renovation and extension of a local primary school and to build 40 more water wells for villagers in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the charity ride gained support from a list sponsors including Perfect (China), which donated RMB300,000 in cash, and Shenzhen Simmons Bedding and Furniture Ltd, which donated RMB100,000 in cash plus bedding products valued at RMB30,000.

Futian Shangri-La, Shenzhen initiated Ride for Hope in November 2013 to draw public attention and raise money for those in need. The hotel organised six riders who cycled from Shenzhen to Shanghai, completing a 2,300-kilometre ride in three weeks. With the joint effort of 11 Shangri-La properties in South and East China, the activity collected RMB343,000.

In June 2014, Futian Shangri-La, Shenzhen’s delegates went to the ethnic Yao villages in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, where the villagers have built 21 water wells with the money collected from Ride for Hope 2013. The harsh conditions in the villages during the water well construction inspection resulted in the hotel’s commitment and decision to further help the local kids’ education, in addition to continuing to collect funds to address the water shortage issue. Thus, the hotel organised eight riders for the second Ride for Hope.
