Rio Grande Scenic Railroad Debuts New Train Experiences for Summer, 2016

Departing two hours outside of Colorado Springs in Alamosa, Colo., the Rio Grande Scenic Railroad is pleased to announce a number of new scenic train experiences available for summer, 2016. Families and friends can enjoy the natural beauty of the Southern Rockies from the comfort of vista-dome vintage rail cars, traveling along historic rail routes home to abundant wildlife and breathtaking scenery.

Whether it’s an excursion over the majestic LaVeta Pass, sunset dinner passage through the San Luis Valley or country concert at the top of 9,400 ft. Fir Mountain, the Rio Grande Scenic Railroad presents travelers with a variety of one-of-a-kind experiences for an unforgettable summer train trip:


Weekday & Weekend Excursion Trains

Select days Monday-Sunday, 9:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m., May 27-Sept. 9, 2016

The Rio Grande Scenic Railroad’s weekday and weekend excursion trains take guests on a guided journey along the longest and highest standard gauge railroad in Colorado. Retro dome cars allow passengers to marvel at the exquisite sights along the LaVeta Pass before stopping in the quaint mountain town of LeVeta for exploration.

Mountain Rails Live Summer Concert Series

Saturdays and Sundays, 10:30 a.m.-6 p.m., June 11-Sept. 11, 2016

Currently operating for its seventh season, the Mountain Rails Live Summer Concert Series takes guests on a scenic two-hour ride through the Southern Rockies before arriving at the 9,400-foot-high Fir Summit Amphitheater, powered entirely by wind and solar energy. Upon arrival, guests enjoy a concert set amidst jaw-dropping scenery, featuring award-winning country and western folk musicians. A featured event as part of its Mountain Rails Live Summer Concert Series, guests are treated to an unforgettable day of train travel, taking in mountain views, sampling from over 20 regional breweries and enjoying live music and barbeque.
