To make the most of the summer in London, Hotel Café Royal’s award winning spa, Akahsa Holistic Wellbeing Centre, is introducing a new concept – outdoor sunrise yoga. Taking place on the private terrace of one of London’s most exclusive suites – the Dome Penthouse – guests will be led through an alfresco hour class by one of Akasha’s trained yoga instructors. With 180° views over London, including Big Ben and Westminster Abbey, guests will enjoy the quiet beauty of the sunrise over the city, before the hustle and bustle begins.
The outdoor class will focus on realigning the mind and body through a series of postures known as asanas which flow dynamically together to strengthen, stretch and relax. The practice energizes, detoxifies and helps building concentration as well as getting the heart pumping, waking up tired muscles and opening the lungs.
There are huge benefits of practicing yoga in the morning which include cultivating breath awareness early, so that it can continue throughout the day, as well as a feeling of stability and calm, which helps deal with any stress or distraction that might arrive as the day progresses. An additional benefit of the class is the time spent outdoors, above the pollution. So many people spend the majority of their time indoors and at their desks, so an interval outdoors to meditate on the beauty of nature is a great advantage to this practice.
The 60-minute open air sunrise yoga classes will run every Tuesday morning throughout June, July and August, at 7.30 am. Each class is complimentary to members of Akasha Holistic Wellbeing Centre while the cost for hotel guests is £20. The fee for those visiting externally is £95, including a day pass for Akasha’s facilities with full use of the gym, swimming pool, heat therapies and relaxation areas. In bad weather classes will take place in the yoga studio at Akasha Holistic Wellbeing Centre.
