Roadshow Peru’ has completed its Asian showcase promoting the exotic South American destination in Singapore, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

1Organised by the Peruvian Commission for the Promotion of Exports and Tourism (PromPerú), the eight-day roadshow was heralded a tremendous success, introducing Peru to the region’s leading tour operators.

PROMPERÚ’s Asia roadshow kicked-off at ITB Asia 2013 in Singapore from October 23-25, alongside its co-exhibitors including tour operators Tucano Peru, Travel Group, Inca Rail and Dasatariq.  The roadshow then continued to Hong Kong and Taipei from October 28 to October 30.

“ITB Asia was a great opportunity for Peruvian and Asian companies to build relationships, with luxury tours especially catching the attention and interest of the trade,” said Rosana Guinea, PROMPERÚ’s Incoming Tourism Coordinator for the Asia-Pacific markets.

PROMPERÚ was participating for the second consecutive year, and its third participation at the show, introducing world-renowned attractions from the iconic Andean citadel of Machu-Picchu, the capital Lima, magical Cuzco and the Amazon rainforest to Lake Titicaca and the mysterious Nazca Lines. Promotional activities extended beyond trade fairs and the road show to one-on-one meetings, advertising, arranging press trips, forging strategic alliances and establishing international representation.

2As a result of its increasing promotional activities in the region, Peru continues to see promising growth of visitor arrivals from Asia– up 13.2% from last year to over 86,000 between January and August 2013.  Singaporevisitors grew by 28.6% with Hong Kong up 35.6% to nearly 1,000 over the same period and Taiwan growth up 15.3%. PROMPERÚ’s Asian roadshow was part of a global promotional initiative across 14 major markets including North America, Europe and Oceania.

Peru was this year voted Best Culinary Destination in this year’s World Travel Awards, known as the ‘Oscars’ of the travel industry, for the second consecutive year. PromPerú was also voted Best Tourist Office in Central and South America for the third consecutive year.
