Move over Mayfair, the historic Brisbane Showgrounds, home of the iconic Royal Queensland Show (Ekka) and Royal International Convention Centre, has made it onto the Brisbane Monopoly board.
The new board was launched this morning, with all 22 squares revealed.
The Brisbane Showgrounds and Ekka, which have a 140 year old history in the city, feature as one of the three light blue squares.
RNA Chief Executive Brendan Christou said he was pleased the Ekka had made it onto the special Brisbane edition of Monopoly.
“Monopoly is the world’s most popular board game and the Ekka is Queensland’s most popular event, so it’s a perfect marriage.
“Queenslanders were very vocal about getting the Ekka onto the board, with thousands of people voting for it on social media and we thank them for their wonderful support.”
Since 1876, more than 30 million people have experienced the Ekka, while Monopoly has been played by countless generations around the world.
Now they’ll get to play the Brisbane edition of Monopoly, hoping to roll the dice and land on the home of the Ekka.
