Rosewood Hotels & Resorts®, the ultra-luxury hotel group, today adds seven-time Emmy award-winning actress Allison Janney to its Rosewood Curators program, a carefully selected group of luminaries and leaders who share travel recommendations and insider tips for Rosewood destinations around the world. Janney joins Rosewood Curators on behalf of Rosewood Washington, D.C., the portfolio’s luxurious urban retreat located in the capital’s idyllic Georgetown neighborhood.

Born in Boston and raised in Dayton, Ohio, Janney made her foray into acting at Kenyon College where she performed in a play directed by the iconic actor, Paul Newman. Upon graduating, she moved to New York to study acting at the acclaimed Neighborhood Playhouse, later making her Broadway debut in the 1996 revival of Noël Coward’s, Present Laughter. She went on to star in numerous films including Big Night and American Beauty, before landing the role of press secretary C.J. Cregg on the hit D.C.-based drama, The West Wing. Janney was honored with four Emmys and four Screen Actors Guild awards for her role in the show. She currently stars in the hit comedy Mom which has earned her two more Emmys for her work, as well as being honored with an Emmy for her role as Margaret Scully in Showtime’s hit drama, Masters of Sex.  Additional film credits include The Help, The Hours, The Girl on the Train, and Juno. Janney’s latest role portraying Tonya Harding’s mother in I, Tonya is garnering much critical acclaim and buzz for the actress.

During Janney’s time filming The West Wing, she frequently traveled to Washington, D.C. and developed an affinity and admiration for the city’s history, beauty, and elegance. Years after the show has wrapped, Janney maintains a closeness with Washington, D.C.  As the Curator for Rosewood Washington, D.C., Janney shares her favorite ways to experience the nation’s capital.

While a walking tour of the National Mall is a must for most travelers visiting Washington, D.C., Janney suggests enhancing this classic tour by exploring the monuments at night, when the smaller crowds and illuminated buildings make for a truly spectacular experience. Additionally, Janney recommends touring The White House and the newly renovated Capitol Building during the daytime as well, both of which she frequented during her time playing C.J. Cregg.

An avid appreciator of the arts, Janney enjoys visiting the John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts and recommends planning a visit to see the National Symphony Orchestra perform, which recently appointed renowned conductor, Gianandrea Noseda as the musical director. This season’s program features centennial celebrations of Leonard Bernstein and Ingmar Bergman, and brings the likes of Leslie Odom Jr. and Cynthia Erivo to the stage. The local landmark holds a particularly special place in Janney’s heart as the location where she starred opposite Richard Thomson in the play Citizen Tom Paine, a role for which she received her Actor’s Equity card.

“D.C. is brimming with both electric energy and serene beauty. It is the bustling epicenter of American politics but also a picturesque destination, right on the water, covered in cherry blossom trees. L’Enfant’s design of the city, characterized by a stately elegance, gives the city a very European feel.” says Janney. “Washington, D.C. will always hold a special place in my heart, and I am delighted to continually find new ways to take in its splendor.”
