Roundabout Theater Company’s Star Studded 50th Anniversary Season To Draw Travelers

Thérèse Raquin will officially open today, October 29th, 2015 at Studio 54 as part of The Broadway Collection member Roundabout Theatre Company’s star-studded 50th anniversary season.

International celebrity Keira Knightley will make her Broadway debut as the title character in the show, which is directed by Evan Cabnet and based upon the novel by Émile Zola. In the show, love becomes a dangerous game when a young woman trapped in a loveless marriage develops a passionate relationship with an old friend.

Roundabout Theatre Company is a not for profit that presents a variety of plays, musicals and new works on five stages. Its initiative is to allow experienced directors to go back to their creative roots, as well as to showcase new plays and debut productions for emerging writers and directors.

Emerging playwright Lindsey Ferrentino’s world premiere production of a new American play Ugly Lies the Bone opened on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at the Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre off Broadway. Due to its extreme success, Roundabout has already announced a two-week extension of the play, which depicts the struggles, and scars of a newly discharged soldier when she returns home from duty in Afghanistan, until December 6th, 2015. Also of note for travelers to the city, the play The Humans, directed by two-time Tony Award winner Joe Mantello, opens October 25th at the Laura Pels Theatre at the Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre.

Aside from debut productions, Roundabout allows experienced directors to explore creative takes on classic works. Old Times is a play directed by Tony Award Winning director Douglas Hodge that opened at the American Airlines Theatre on October 6th and will run through November. Starring well-known British Actors Clive Owen (Sin City) and Kelly Reilly (Doctor Who), it tells the story of a trip down memory lane which quickly becomes a seductive battle for power.

Looking ahead, travelers planning their spring holidays can anticipate Roundabout Theatre’s spring season, with a lineup including: Long Day’s Journey Into Night starring another celeb, Jessica Lange (American Horror Story) and The Man Who Came to Dinner featuring Nathan Lane (The Producers.) The new romantic musical She Loves Me will open at Studio 54 on March 17th 2016 and the “show within a show” farce, Noises Off, will feature Tony Award Winning actor Andrea Martin (Pippin) and will open at the American Airlines Theatre on Broadway January 14th, 2016.
