Royal Plaza on Scotts (RP) is the Top 2 Singapore Best Workplaces in this year’s Singapore Best Workplaces™ by Great Place to Work® Singapore 2018. RP is the one and only hotel to be recognised and honoured as a great workplace.

The award celebrates the hotel’s vibrant workplace culture, created in the Spirit of RP™. The Spirit of RP™ encapsulates the brand values (S.E.R.V.I.C.E – Seamless, Empowered, Refreshing, Versatile, Individualised, Charming and Emotional) and Employee Value Propositions (EVPs) (Trust and Respect, Celebrate, Fun, Passion and Making a Difference). It sets the foundation for the workplace culture, in which people practices are at the heart of it.

At Royal Plaza on Scotts, all talents are known as Chief Experience Officers (CEOs), as every talent plays a key role. From Guest Services Officers who check guests in with a smile to Housekeeping Attendants who spruce up the guestrooms for a comfortable stay, each touch point is significant to the guests’ experiences. CEOs are empowered to create individualised experiences for guests based on their needs and preferences. It could be to spring a surprise celebration for milestone events or to go the extra mile to drive an emotional connection through heartfelt service delivery.

In commitment to trust and respect CEOs, the hotel also pioneered practices uncommon in the industry such as omitting clock-in and clock-out and the submission of medical certificates. This in turn encourages and empowers CEOs to take ownership of their work.

Most importantly, communication is the name of the game. CEOs can voice out feedback during focus group discussions with Human Capital and Junior Board and Middle Managers meetings with Patrick Fiat, General Manager and Chief Experience Officer. Many of the hotel’s people practices, as the term itself suggests, come from the thoughts and opinions of CEOs themselves, as they benefit directly from the practices. Engaged CEOs are happier and more motivated at the workplace, which demonstrates in their daily work and interaction with guests and fellow CEOs.

“Making inclusive decisions, creating emotional connections and nurturing our human capital, create a long-standing impact for our CEOs. We believe that happy CEOs equals to happy guests and this starts from creating a great workplace (with loads of fun),” said Patrick Fiat, General Manager and Chief Experience Officer (CEO), Royal Plaza on Scotts.

In the true Spirit of RP™, the team attended the awards ceremony dressed up as minions, based on the theme ‘Movie’. The minions’ cheerful disposition is representative of RP’s love for fun at the workplace, and other parallels include their impressive versatility, creative thinking and amazing teamwork. Minions are small but they sure are mighty and incredibly crazy (in a good way).  At the event, the team stood out collectively in their striking blue and yellow outfits, complete with goggles and the occasional minion speak.

Royal Plaza on Scotts has steadily climbed up the ranks since its debut at Great Place to Work Singapore 2015 with the Watch Out World (W.O.W) Special Mention Award. Other awards that followed include Top Six Best Companies to Work For by Great Place to Work Singapore 2016 and Top Three Singapore’s Best Workplace by Great Place to Work Singapore 2017.
