After only eight months under new ownership, the Russell TOP 10 Holiday Park has won the holiday park sector’s top award, the prestigious AA Traveller Spirit of Hospitality Award for 2016.The annual Holiday Parks Awards were held during the holiday park sector’s annual conference, attended by about 300 Holiday Accommodation Parks Association of New Zealand (HAPNZ) members.

The Russell TOP 10 Holiday Park received national attention earlier this year when it went smoke-free.

HAPNZ Chief Executive Fergus Brown says the AA Traveller Spirit of Hospitality Award sets the standard for hospitality within the industry, a bar that is lifting year on year.

“We’re increasingly seeing the standard of hospitality improve within the sector, even within bigger parks where sometimes providing that personal touch can be difficult,” says Mr Brown.https://www.pata.org/portfolio/ptm-2016/
The Award attracted a record number of more than 80 entries this year.

AA Tourism Publishing General Manager Moira Penman says what set Russell Top 10 Holiday Park apart is its commitment to actively seek and listen to feedback and then implement change.

“The judges were impressed with how highly the whole team at Russell Top 10 Holiday Park valued feedback, including coming back with customised responses and going back to guests after making changes based on what they had been told,” says Ms Penman.

The park is Australia’s Next Generation Holiday Parks’ first venture in New Zealand.

The other big award of the night went to Lindsay McLeod of Aaron Lodge TOP 10 Holiday Park in Dunedin, who was named as winner of the Outstanding Service to the Holiday Park Industry Award, sponsored by the TOP 10 Group.

Mr McLeod has worked tirelessly over many years, providing advice, guidance and leadership to the holiday park sector, Mr Brown says. Mr McLeod was a long-serving member of the HAPNZ board, including a period as chairman, and was also a board member of the Tourism Industry Association (now Tourism Industry Aotearoa).
