The Schwartz-owned Rydges Sydney Central is about to undergo a chic new refurbishment as well as add two new floors of executive rooms and corner suites.

With its prime location near Central station and in the heart of Surry Hills’ trendy dining precinct, the hotel’s designers are incorporating a highly contemporary ‘Urban Surry Hills’ design into the new rooms, including a very innovative textured exposed-brick design for the bed-head and vibrant colours for lounges and chairs.

In all, 38 rooms and suites will be added to the hotel, bringing the total inventory to 309 rooms.

The new rooms will be constructed in the eastern wing on levels 5 & 6 above the existing swimming pool and around the current atrium.  During the project the pool, spa and sauna will receive a refresh an upgrade as well.

A feature of the upgrade will be the creation of four additional corner suites that take in the full Surry Hills ambience.

Coinciding with the construction of the new rooms – which should be ready in time for the peak business and conference period in February 2017 – will be a major upgrade of existing rooms, including new carpet, paint, lighting, furnishings, 50” LED TVs,  artwork and corridors.  The upgrading should be completed by November 2016.

The new Executive room type will be extended to 107 rooms as a result of the conversion of a number of Superior and Deluxe rooms. When the project is completed by February 2017, the hotel will boast 97 Executive rooms and 14 suites, including 10 balcony rooms.

By using light weight materials and methods, construction of the two new floors and the refurbishment program will cause minimal disruption to hotel guests or the operation of the hotel.

General Manager of the Rydges Sydney Central, Andrew McKenna, said that the popularity of the Surry Hills area, along with easy access to the CBD, Moore Park and Sydney Airport, were a winning combination for Rydges Sydney Central.

“The refurbishment really captures the feel and style of the area, and the generous size of the new and existing rooms makes the hotel a perfect base for corporate and leisure travellers and conference groups,” said Mr McKenna.
