SAA announces new codeshare with RwandAir

South African Airways (SAA) and RwandAir, the national carrier of Rwanda, have announced a bilateral codeshare for operations between Johannesburg and Kigali.

SAA’s Country Manager for Australasia Tim Clyde-Smith said the new codeshare flight will operate daily each way between the two countries and would mutually support new tourism activity that has increased in the last few years in Rwanda.

“We have seen a steady rise in the level of inquiry from Australians in travelling to Rwanda which has prolific wildlife including the world-famous and largest surviving population of mountain gorillas and extraordinary natural beauty, particularly in the northern and eastern regions of the country,” Tim said.

“Kigali is the gateway to one of the world’s last true natural tourism frontiers. Our new codeshare reflects our commitment to work with recognised regional carriers to ensure our customers can travel to their destination on one ticket and with the same level of standard and service they expect from SAA as their natural choice of carrier to and across Africa,” he said.

The new arrangement means reservations and ticketing are now in SAA and Rwandair’s systems for bookings going forward.

“Our new deal with RwandAir is yet another example of SAA’s commitment to serving the African continent as its leading airline and to delivering the most comprehensive network to our recreational and business customers,” Tim concluded.
