Sabre Pacific has turned its green initiatives into gold after winning the Project ICARUS Outstanding Achievement: Travel Supplier Award at the Global Business Travel Association (GBTA) AUS/NZ Conference on Tuesday night [17 September].

Gai Tyrrell, CEO at Sabre Pacific, says Sabre Pacific was selected for the award for its dedication to supplying products and services that enhance the sustainability of business travellers and the travel industry as a whole.

“As an industry leader, we believe that it’s our job to innovate and advocate for a healthy and environmentally friendly industry. I’m honoured that Sabre Pacific has been recognised for our commitment to these worthy causes,” says Tyrrell.

“Each year we make substantial investments in order to make the world a better place, one journey at a time. We understand the importance of leading by example and strive to minimise the environmental impact of our own global operations. Our intention is to raise the bar for the entire industry.”

Tyrrell points to Sabre Pacific’s industry leading CO2 reports and calculators, which help travellers easily measure and manage their environmental footprint.

“Our carbon calculators have been declared by Oxford University’s Environmental Change Institute as ‘the most detailed in existence’ in a comparative report. We’ve given agencies the ability to utilise this functionality by introducing a free Red App which seamlessly integrates a carbon calculator into Sabre Red Workspace,” says Tyrrell.

Sabre’s Carbon Emission Calculator totals the approximate amount of carbon burned in kilograms per PNR trip for air travel, hotel or car hire. Additionally, Carbon Emission Calculator can easily add itinerary remarks for the information of the traveller or invoice remarks for simple back office reporting.

Tyrrell says the award cements Sabre Pacific’s leadership of sustainability practices in travel.

“We believe that better travel means a better world and we are working hard to make that a reality for everyone,” says Tyrrell.

Project ICARUS is a GBTA Foundation initiative started in 2006 by the Institute of Travel and Meetings (ITM) in the UK. Over the years it has grown to be the most widely recognised and respected Corporate Sustainability/Corporate Social Responsibility program within the global business travel and meeting industry.

The Project ICARUS Outstanding Achievement Awards are annual event celebrating business travel’s most sustainable companies.
