An indispensable venue offering new discoveries for those seeking alternative sounds in Istanbul since 2010, Salon İKSV is as vibrant as ever in March. The artists to take the stage at Salon include King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, Khruangbin, Son Lux, and Stimming x Lambert.

Khruangbin / Thursday-Friday, 1-2 March, 22.30-22.00

Indie pop band from Texas, Khruangbin caught the attention of many newspapers and magazines from The Guardian to i-D by the strength of the exotic touches apparent in their sound. They became widely known through Bonobo’s cure for the craving of new and good music, the Late Nights compilation. Their name means ‘airplane’ in Thai, which points to the international scale of the names they are inspired by, in their own words. The instrumental surf-rock band The Shadows are their musical gods. They tread the waters of both psychedelic and dream-pop as they bring the unwalked musical paths on to the stage. The band described by The Guardian as ‘…wistful soul and slow-motion funk with an exotic ambience that might not sound out of place in a Tarantino movie.’. They left everyone in awe when they appeared on the Salon İKSV stage in 2016 and they are back to captivate even more music lovers as they take the stage in support of their new album Con Todo El Mundo.

Garanti Jazz Green: Son Lux / Saturday, 3 March, 22.30

The post-rock, trip hop band from NYC headed by Ryan Lott, Son Lux released their debut album in 2008, whichwas followed by a stamp of approval from NPR in the form of ‘Best New Band’. The sophomore album was described by Consequence of Sound as ‘the dark, operatic middle ground between Owen Pallett and In Rainbows-era Radiohead or Wild Beasts’ fantastic operatic heights’. They signed to ‘Best Indie Label’ Glassnote Records – home to such marquee names as Childish Gambino, and Mumford & Sons – and graduated to the Major league. They worked with Lorde, Sufjan Stevens, and Woodkid and released their brand new Brighter Wounds in February. They will be playing brand new songs for the first time in Istanbul at Salon İKSV.

Considered as the best thing that happened to psychedelic rock music lately, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard was formed in 2011 in Australia, the land of Tame Impala, Pond and Jagwar Ma. Some mistaken their raw and dirty productions reminiscent of the 60’s psychedelic explosion for relics from dusty archives, but they were brand new. So prolific, they managed to fit three albums in one year. Quickly increased their worldwide recognition with genre-jumping albums where they experiment with different concepts each time and their almost custom-made records. They garnered the majority of their fans in Turkey by being quite versed in Turkish melodies, Aşık Veysel vibes and their shout out from Primavera. After years of anticipation they will be in Istanbul for the first time at Salon İKSV.

They have travelled to every continent with a dense touring programme and festival participations in as far as Hong Kong and India, absorbing their audience into the carnival-like atmosphere they create on stage. They will be on the Salon İKSV stage for the first time with songs from their debut album to be released on 23 March by Six Degrees Records. The album was recorded with the producer of the legends, Jerry Boys, and crowdfunded on Indiegogo.

minimalismus+: Stimming x Lambert / Saturday, 17 March, 22.30

The joint project of Diynamic Music’s veteran producer Stimming and pianist and composer Lambert. Martin Stimming started playing the violin, piano and drums at the age of 10. By the age of 16, he was producing electronic music. He moved to Hamburg, where he met cult producers Solomun and Adriano who had just formed Diynamic Music, and ever since he has been a staple at dance clubs. Lambert is a pianist and composer, who is in love with jazz piano and known to take the stage wearing a Sardinian bull mask. He drew further attention when the linear notes of his first album released by Berlin-based Staatsakt had Nils Frahm on mixing and mastering. The partnering of Stimming and Lambert, who continues his solo avant-garde piano works, resulted in Exodus; an album fusing minimalist techno and avant-garde with touches of classical music. They will be on the Salon İKSV stage as part of their tour in support of the album.
