Samsung Redefines the Movie Theater Experience with the New Onyx Cinema LED Screen

Samsung Electronics H.K. Co. Ltd. today introduced the new Onyx Cinema LED screen in Hong Kong. The new Onyx Cinema LED screen alludes to the display’s ability to showcase cinema content with true, deep and realistic black colors. Samsung also announced Hong Kong’s first-ever Onyx Cinema LED screen is unveiled in MOVIE TOWN today. It will be the 7th Onyx Cinema LED screen in the world, following Seoul, Shanghai and Hollywood.

Samsung new Onyx Cinema LED screen is ushering the next generation of movie theater technology. The sensation of watching a movie on the Cinema LED screen – with its High Dynamic Range (HDR) picture quality and infinite contrast ratio – is unlike anything experienced before. With fast response time, Onyx Cinema LED screen is able to provide clear and vibrant movie content even with fast on-screen motion. The smooth screen performance allows audience to enjoy fast action scenes without motion blur, letting them fully immerse in the movie and to pay attention to every details.

The Next Generation of Cinema

By bringing the visual power of LED picture quality to the big screen, Samsung Onyx Cinema LED screen offers viewers more powerful, compelling and memorable content. As Onyx Cinema LED technology is unaffected by ambient light, it can uphold consistent and distortion-free picture quality that keeps audiences engaged and furthers realism by featuring high brightness and picture quality.

Samsung Onyx Cinema LED display accommodates any venue configuration while delivering visual quality, technical performance and reliability beyond that of traditional projector-based operations. With the 4K model earning validation as the world’s first Digital Cinema Initiatives (DCI)-certified theater display, the Samsung Onyx Cinema LED screen translates the combination of advanced LED and High Dynamic Range (HDR) picture quality to lifelike big screen content.

Samsung announced partnership with MCL Cinemas – one of the largest cinema circuits in Hong Kong, with 9 prime cinema sites and 48 screens – to bring the first ever Onyx Cinema LED to the brand new cinema, MOVIE TOWN in New Town Plaza, Shatin, that will be the 7th Onyx Cinema in the world, following Seoul, Shanghai and Hollywood.

Expanding Presence through Worldwide Partnerships

The Samsung Onyx Cinema LED screen was debuted at CinemaCon 2018 came as Samsung continues to expand its presence among global cinema operators and audiences. As more theaters upgrade to the Onyx screen, Samsung is working with cinema content developers to ensure that the display can optimize upcoming films. Samsung will collaborate with leading cinema technology services provider Ymagis Group and its Eclair content development business unit to deliver EclairColor® HDR-compliant pictures that shine on the Onyx screen. Samsung additionally has forged a partnership with Hollywood-based post-production company Roundabout to develop specialized Onyx-ready HDR content.
