The San Francisco Travel Association has promoted Hubertus Funke to the position of Senior Vice President, Tourism.
Funke joined San Francisco Travel in 2007 as Director of International Tourism, Europe & Latin America and was promoted to Vice President in 2014.
“Hubertus has played an instrumental role in shaping the Tourism Division over the years, in collaboration with his colleagues and all our partners. His insights to the international markets and his relationships with San Francisco International Airport and our international representation offices allow him to smoothly transition into his new role,” said Joe D’Alessandro, San Francisco Travel president and CEO. Hubertus will be a tremendous leader in taking the Tourism department forward.”
In his new role, Funke oversees the association’s 13 global representation offices and is responsible for developing and executing strategies and programs to maximize the economic impact of leisure travel business from travel producers. This includes developing new business from travel producers (such as wholesale tour operators, receptive tour operators, and major travel agencies), growing business from the current business to business (B2B) customer base, as well as collaborating with Executive Vice President/Chief Marketing Officer Howard Pickett to create more direct-to-consumer initiatives in key markets. He works in partnership with San Francisco International Airport (SFO) for aviation development and marketing, as well as the U.S. Travel Association and Visit California.
Before joining San Francisco Travel, Funke worked with the largest inbound receptive operators, AlliedTPro and New World Travel, both in New York City and San Francisco. He also has experience from Kuoni Travel in New York and TUI in Germany. Funke, who is a native German, is multilingual, fluent in German and English and proficient in French and Spanish.
