It’s been a big year of international recognition for luxury travel specialist, Sanctuary Retreats.  http://www.granmonte.com/

As 2017 draws to a close, the company has recently earned a number of coveted accolades from both travel trade and consumers. At the Condé Nast Traveler’s Readers’ Choice Awards 2017 in October, its Kenyan property, Sanctuary Olonana, was named as the Top Resort in Africa and #2 in the Top Resorts in the World category.

With an extensive transformation of the camp about to commence shortly as part of a major investment program across the Sanctuary portfolio, Michael McCall, Director of Sales Australia, New Zealand and Asia, hopes these will not be the property’s last. “That Sanctuary Olonana is already widely regarded as one of the top safari properties is a great testament to our fantastic staff on the ground in Kenya. Due to reopen in June 2018, the new camp will showcase modern design blended with a distinct traditional African style and will truly embody our ‘Luxury, naturally’ ethos. So we hope it will continue to raise the very high bar we have already set for ourselves.”

The new-look camp will feature 14 exceptional new glass-sided suites, all of which will each offer at least 130 sqm of floor space. Combining contemporary architecture with time-tested construction practices, every aspect of the new lodge will maximise the wilderness experience for guests – bringing a sense of the magnificent outdoors inside.

Another of Sanctuary Retreat’s flagship properties, Sanctuary Chief’s Camp, also fared well in the Conde Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards, landing the #4 spot on the Top Resorts n Africa list. This comes hot on the heels of 2017 World Travel Awards™ also in October, which saw Sanctuary Chief’s Camp take home gold in Botswana’s Leading Safari Lodge 2017 category, and the operator’s Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp awarded Uganda’s Leading Tented Safari Camp 2017.

Established in 1993 to celebrate excellence in the travel and tourism industry, the World Travel Awards are one of the highest accolades a travel company can receive, described as “the Oscars of the Travel Industry” by The Wall Street Journal. Voting is conducted online by travel and tourism professionals worldwide.

According to Michael McCall, “Both the World Travel Awards and the Conde Nast Traveler’s Readers’ Choice Awards of the highest commendations in the travel industry, and we feel incredibly privileged and humbled to receive this recognition from our peers”.
