Sanctuary Retreats Relaunches Sanctuary Yangzi Explorer

February 23, 2017 River Cruising No Comments Email Email

Luxury cruise specialist Sanctuary Retreats has announced the launch of the new look Sanctuary Yangzi Explorer in March 2017. Consolidating its position as the most luxurious ship on the Yangtze River, the boutique vessel is being extensively restyled in a contemporary design with Chinese influences, in keeping with Sanctuary Retreats’ Luxury, Naturally philosophy.

The Sanctuary Yangzi Explorer carries a maximum of 124 passengers, in 38 deluxe cabins, the largest entry-level cabins on the river, 20 suites and 4 specialty suites.  All cabins and suites have private balconies.  The ship offers the highest staff to passenger ratio on the river making the service exemplary and very personalized.

The new interiors have been designed by Premchit Chitrabamrung (Teenie) who also designed the interiors of the Sanctuary Ananda, Sanctuary Retreats’ acclaimed ship in Myanmar.  Having spent time exploring the destination, Teenie has drawn inspiration from the region and reflected this in her design.  All decorative items and finishing touches, from vases and artwork to cushions and furniture, have been sourced locally at markets in Yichang and Guangzhou.

Commenting on the launch, Pieter van der Schee, Global Director Sales & Marketing for Sanctuary Retreats, says, “We’re very excited about the new Sanctuary Yangzi Explorer which will offer the ultimate luxury cruise experience in China. A Yangtze Cruise is a real highlight of any China tour and includes sailing through the magnificent Three Gorges, a traditional sampan boat ride along the unspoilt Shennong Stream and visits to urban metropolis Chongqing and ancient river town Fengdu.  Discerning guests looking to explore the iconic Yangtze River in comfort and luxury of an international standard but still with an authentic Chinese ambience should look no further than Sanctuary Yangzi Explorer.”

The 20 suites are being fully refitted with new furniture, authentic Chinese artwork, stylish textiles and soft furnishings and ‘silver-leaf’ wallpaper designs featuring a ‘mudan’, or peony, which is native to the Yangtze region. The 38 deluxe cabins will also be extensively enhanced with completely new wallpaper, carpet, curtains, chairs and bedlinens, as well as reupholstered furnishings. The Celestial and Imperial Suites, which are the two largest specialty suites on the ship, will be refreshed in a contemporary-Colonial Chinese style. Further enhancements are taking place in the spa, reception area and public rooms and follow the full redesign of the ship’s restaurant last year.

Sanctuary Yangzi Explorer offers a choice of either a three-night cruise from Chongqing to Yichang or a four-night cruise from Yichang to Chongqing, bringing guests as close as possible to central China’s most captivating landscapes. Itineraries have been carefully created to provide a fascinating insight into history-steeped cities and rural stories to be found along Asia’s longest river. As well as exciting excursions, experiences on the ship are designed to immerse guests into Chinese culture. From captivating talks about Chinese history and traditions to Thai Chi and Chinese massage, and from the art of calligraphy to learning about the all-important tea ceremony, these guest experiences have been created to offer an authentic, yet luxurious experience of China.
