An authentic safari experience doesn’t mean forgoing a little luxury. Just ask specialist safari operator, Sanctuary Retreats, which has recently unveiled significant upgrades to both its Sanctuary Serengeti Migration Camp and Sanctuary Ngorongoro Crater Camp as part of its ongoing commitment to continuously improving its properties across Tanzania.
Over the last twenty years, the award-winning company has cemented a reputation for providing luxurious accommodation in the heart of the African wilderness. Recent improvements to its Tanzanian camps have been prompted by a desire to decrease their impact the environment, and also to further enhance the safety and comfort of guests. Changes include elevating classic safari tents at both properties off the ground using beautiful and sustainably sourced teak wooden flooring, as well as significant improvements to tent interiors, with the addition of new toilets, showers and other amenities.
And of course, guests of both properties will continue to enjoy all the usual indulgences travellers have come to expect from Sanctuary Retreats – including expert guides, first-class service and delicious gourmet food.
As its name suggests, Sanctuary Ngorongoro Crater Camp can be found in Tanzania’s Ngorongoro Crater Rim Valley, arguably one of Africa’s most dramatic landscapes. Its location provides guests with unrivalled access to the crater floor, home to an extensive assortment of animals including zebra, buffalo, warthog, wildebeest, hippo and elephants; along with an amazing population of predators – lions, hyenas, jackals, cheetahs and even the elusive leopard.
The Camp itself offers stunning vistas, overlooking a deep valley lush with verdant rainforest. And the journey to Sanctuary Ngorongoro Crater Camp is equally spectacular, navigating a serpentine road past Maasai herders and their cows, along the rim of the crater swathed the clouds.
By contrast, Sanctuary Serengeti Migration Camp moves between three different locations, literally following the migration as it travels across the Serengeti, and offering guests year-round access to this incredible spectacle. Depending on exact migration movement, the Camp can be found in the Central Serengeti from June to July, the Northern Serengeti from August to November and the Southern Serengeti from December to March, ensuring guests never miss out on any of the action!
As the Great Migration moves into the Serengeti each year, both Sanctuary Serengeti Migration Camp and Sanctuary Ngorongoro Crater Camp are perfectly positioned to experience this once-in-a-lifetime event. And now, thanks to improvements to both camps, they can do so in even more luxury and comfort.
