egtmedia59Mike Cannon is Managing Director of the Sarawak Convention Bureau and, as you would expect, he is enthusiastic, knowledgeable and very convincing indeed when it comes to talking about Sarawak.

Sarawak is one of the two Malaysian States located on the island of Borneo and Mike is so enthusiastic about the region that he has “upped stakes” and is now living in Kuching.

Talking with EGlobal yesterday he opened up the conversation with this line; “Sarawak is where adventure meets business” – and he went to expand on his theme.  “You can be in a meeting, in a modern hotel or in or convention centre, when someone says it’s time for a break, and just forty minutes later you are wandering with the Orangutans or visiting a traditional Malay family in a very traditional and well preserved long house!”

Kuching, the capital of the province is easily accessible, there are over 2500 seats a  day from Kuala Lumpur or Singapore, which are the most direct routes, but there is also access from Brunei, which is – “just up the road”, as well as from Kota Kinabalu in nearby Sabah.  Sarawak is a small state, about the size of Tasmania but it has plenty of four and five star hotels, a convention centre with seating for 5000 in a plenary session, friendly people and plenty to see.

Kuching recently hosted the 5000 guest Asean Tourism Forum and received rave reviews for the facilities, the food, the service and the friendliness of the people.
