Business Events Sarawak (BESarawak) by Sarawak Convention Bureau successfully hosted its first TriBE: INNOVATION Day that took place at Pullman Hotel, Kuching where industry partners gathered to celebrate the 22 graduates of TriBE: INNOVATION Masterclass.

The main objective of TriBE: INNOVATION Masterclass is to educate and empower Sarawak’s industry partners with the certification to enhance their professionalism and partake in the Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) Certification. The Masterclass has been awarded the highest Continuous Education Unit (CEU) points in Malaysia of 44 points, enabling graduates to immediately sit for the CMP.

The event, launched by Deputy Chairman of BESarawak, Datuk Abang Haji Abdul Karim Bin Tun Abang Haji Openg., was a celebration of the new and existing industry players of Business Events, “To make Sarawak a competitive destination for Business Events, we must have a strong and well-educated supplier base. The CMP credential is recognised globally as the badge of excellence in the events industry and the participants are a step closer to attaining this.”

The move to focus on professional development is part of BESarawak’s ‘Legacy Impact Programme’ that aims to drive social and economic transformation in the community and create legacies. Out of the programme’s 4 pillars – Advancing the Field, Community Benefits, Economic Outcomes and Public Policy – TriBE: INNOVATION Masterclass targets one of the drivers, ‘Professional Development’, which is parked under ‘Advancing the Field’.

TriBE: INNOVATION Day also marked the final round of MICE Destination Marketing Contest (MDMC) 2019 – Sarawak Edition which targeted university students in Sarawak from multidisciplinary fields as it aims to introduce and engage them in areas of Business Events (also known as MICE).

The 3 universities, namely Curtin University of Technology, University College Technology Sarawak (UCTS) and Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) competed in the final round and were judged based on 3 categories of Business Events: Proposal, Bid Presentation and Booth Presentation.

According to BESarawak’s Head of Industry Development, Dylan Redas Noel “We want to spark an interest among students so that they can be acquainted with Business Events and develop a career in this industry. By running the finale concurrently with the graduation day, we hope that the participating students understand that a career in this industry is sturdy and bears many potential pathways to grow”.

The MDMC 2019 winning team, Sarawak Legatum from UCTS, wowed the judging panel of experts with their mature and exceptional skills on how to build Sibu as a Business Events hub. The team will be trained to compete in Taiwan, organised by Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) and will be the first ever team from Sarawak to compete.
