Save or splurge: how Aussie travellers rate

Despite declining consumer confidence, Australian travel sentiment remains strong. Creative Holidays continues to see travellers opt for high-end hotels despite the Australian dollar falling below record highs experienced over recent years.

“More and more we’re seeing Australians are opting for five-star, top-end luxury hotels in favourite, close to home destinations such as Fiji, Malaysia and Queensland as well as in emerging short-haul destination New Caledonia,” said Managing Director James Gaskell.

“We also see travellers trading up in higher-end destinations such as the Maldives and in growth regions such as Dubai, Brunei, Croatia and China that are increasingly on Australian’s travel radar. We see that Aussies still love to splurge in Hong Kong and Hawaii opting for four and five-star hotels in these popular shopping hubs.

“Where travellers are looking for more modest options tends to be around Europe – indicating that the continent is still seen as an expensive choice for Australians.  Agents have provided feedback that their clients are choosing to spend more on experiences and all that Europe has to offer beyond their choice in accommodation. Three-star hotels were the option of choice in particular for Denmark, Germany, Greece, Spain and France,” said Gaskell.
