Three SCAD Hong Kong fashion students have been selected for the Fashion Showcase 2018.  This is the fourth edition of the prestigious annual show, which provides a stage for some of SCAD’s most talented fashion students.

Representing the best talent from SCAD’s senior year fashion students and recently graduated alumni from SCAD’s four campuses, Fashion Showcase is an annual event looked to by recruiters for leading fashion brands from around the world.

Fashion Showcase 2018, curated by Michael Fink, Dean of the SCAD School of Fashion, will take place at the SCAD Hong Kong campus on Thursday 11 January 2018, and once again highlights why SCAD’s luxury and fashion management programs are ranked among the global elite. This year The Business of Fashion Global Fashion School Rankings named the SCAD graduate luxury and fashion management program

No. 1 in the world for learning experience.

Leading the catwalk lineup in January will be four dynamic looks from collections created by local Hong Kong students; Sammy Leung, Rosalina Ma, and Endra Devi.

Sammy Leung graduated as a fashion design major at SCAD Hong Kong and is currently working in the costume department at Disney. His collection, City of Darkness, is a men’s street-wear collection inspired by vintage denim style and the Kowloon Walled City in Hong Kong. Each piece is a complex arrangement of asymmetric shapes and layering reminiscent of the construction of the Walled City, while the material itself, is durable and representative of the tough working-class residents. The collection is contemporary with loose fitting silhouettes= and features dramatic stitch lines – a combination of raw edges and well-finished tailored details.

Rosalina Ma graduated as a fashion design major from SCAD Hong Kong in 2017. The Hong Kong native is passionate about travelling and uses her experiences to inspire her work. Morocco Tropica is a resort wear collection that consists of designs from kaftan to evening dresses. Inspired by the meticulously built mosaics, hand knotted carpets and bold, colorful kaftans worn by Moroccans. The entire collection is made in organza and Italian swimwear fabrics, with vibrant and colorful digital prints. This collection is all about movement, shape and color and is designed to instill a sense of hope and optimism for the wearer.

Endra Devi is a fashion design major at SCAD, a native of Hong Kong with Indian and Filipino roots. Her aesthetic is bold, modern and edgy. Endra designs with a purpose and aspires to be a responsible designer committed to sustainability and technology. Dark Paradise takes inspiration from the notorious ‘club kids’ of the 80s, were a youthful belief in unity, having fun, and creating a safe place for people to be expressive ruled the scene. The collection makes a statement with bold patterns of a manipulated psychedelic tropical print that’s digitally printed, paired with a two-toned nylon fabric. Embroidery, crystal embellishment, laser cutting, quilting and bonding are used throughout the highly technical collection.
