Scenic’s Redesign of French Ships Wins Cruise Critic Award

Scenic’s redesign of Scenic Diamond and Scenic Sapphire, two of its France-based Space-Ships, has received the Cruise Critic Editor’s 2017 Pick Award for Best Ship Refurbishment.

Scenic Diamond Royal Owners Suite

The refresh of the ships, which took place over the European winter, included reducing the number of suites on each ship to 78 to cater for a revised guest count of 155, whilst keeping the same crew count for even greater personal service; the addition of Scenic Culinaire – a private cooking emporium offering tailored cooking classes; the addition of two new 47m² Royal Owners Suites; the installation of a salt therapy room in the extended wellness centres; and a vitality pool.

Continuing its history of innovation, Scenic is now the first and only river cruise line to offer a therapeutic salt therapy room and a dedicated cooking emporium.

The three-station salt therapy room offers guests a non-invasive way to re-energise during their cruise. The humidity and temperature-controlled room is handcrafted from salt bricks and creates a micro-climate of a natural salt mine. The addition of low-level lighting and calming music promotes the natural relaxing effects of the salt.

Meanwhile, Scenic Culinaire offers immersive courses in the culinary wonders of the Rhône, Saône and Bordeaux regions. The custom-designed area features a dedicated cooking station, fresh produce fridges – including a cheese and wine cellar – and a live camera and screen so guests will not miss a thing. Each class throughout the cruise caters for just 10 people. Complementing the experience, in select ports guests can Shop with a Chef, sourcing fresh French produce at a local market, before heading back to the ship for their class.

As part of Scenic’s all-inclusive promise, both the salt therapy room and Scenic Culinaire are included in the fare.

In choosing Scenic for the award, the editors of Cruise Critic said: “On its French Space-Ships, Scenic Cruises took a good thing and made it better. Passenger counts were reduced from 167 to 155, and brand-new Owner’s Suites were put in. The line also added hot tubs and a demonstration cooking bar for its new Scenic Culinaire enrichment program; it also expanded its spa and fitness, with a gym and a first-in-the-industry salt room.”

Scenic’s French river cruise itinerary choices range from eight to 16-days with Scenic Sapphire sailing along France’s Rhône and Saône Rivers and Scenic Diamond exploring the rivers of Bordeaux in Southern France.
