It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas at Sea Life Kelly Tarlton’s Auckland, with the iconic New Zealand attraction receiving a ‘Gold Sustainable Tourism Award’ in the national Qualmark awards.

The Qualmark awards independently recognises New Zealand businesses which deliver high-quality, sustainable, consumer-centric experiences. The national certification identifies leaders in the tourism industry who are significantly contributing to ensuring the New Zealand tourism industry continues to shine as a world class, sustainable visitor destination.

Sea Life Kelly Tarlton’s was evaluated on four key areas, Health & Safety, Environment, Social/People and Economic. The popular aquarium received commendations on its strong people management, care and development initiatives; its corporate commitment to carbon output measurements whilst adhering to the original conservation and education principles of its founder, Kelly Tarlton. The attraction’s rigorous commitment to Health & Safety standards and continuous performance monitoring was also highly regarded.

Sea Life Kelly Tarlton’s General Manager, Daniel Henderson said it is a privilege to finish the year on such a positive note, commenting: “For over 30 years, Sea Life Kelly Tarlton’s has been an iconic and popular tourist attraction with international and domestic visitors alike,

“Behind-the-scenes, we have an excellent team of talented operators who work tirelessly to deliver world class experiences for our guests and contribute to the broader Kiwi community through dedicated animal and marine conservation efforts. It is incredibly rewarding to be recognised for our sustainable business efforts as well as the education-focused experiences we offer, such as the brand-new Turtle Rescue zone,” said Mr Henderson.

Earlier this month, Sea Life Kelly Tarlton’s launched Turtle Rescue, New Zealand’s only interactive turtle rehabilitation experience.

Of the seven marine turtle species, five are found in New Zealand waters and all of them are either endangered or critically endangered. Experiences like Turtle Rescue help educate the broader public on how their behaviour in and around the water can impact local marine life.

Turtle Rescue also aims to educate Kiwis on the important story around what type of turtles inhabit our coastlines, why and how they got here and where the turtles go once they are released.

Open throughout the school holidays, Sea Life Kelly Tarlton’s Auckland is situated a short drive from the Auckland CBD and promises interactive fun for the whole family.
