Seabourn Offers Pressreader’s Innovative Digital Newspaper and Magazine Service

August 2, 2014 Cruise No Comments Email Email

Seabourn is enhancing the travel experience for guests with the launch of PressReader Offline, a customizable digital newspaper and magazine service, on its award-winning, intimate ships – Seabourn Odyssey, Seabourn Sojourn and Seabourn Quest.

Through this breakthrough technology, Seabourn is offering guests complimentary, full editions of their favorite global newspapers and magazines from a selection of more than 2,500 that guests can download on personal iOS or Android mobile devices while in port or at sea.

“We pride ourselves on giving our guests the highest quality amenities, as well as all of the comforts of home during their cruising vacation,” said Seabourn President Richard D. Meadows. “With PressReader Offline, we are setting new standards for customer service by keeping our guests connected to the daily news and events from around the world – a service they’ve come to expect during their travels.”

The PressReader app supplies newspapers and magazines in their entirety, including all printed sections and even advertising. Seabourn ships will download the requested content daily, and store it on the ships’ local network, so guests can access their choice without going online. Guests may download the app in advance or while they are on board. In addition, each ship will make available a small supply of tablets with PressReader already downloaded for use by guests who do not carry personal mobile devices.

“We are happy to support Seabourn’s goal of providing the ultimate cruise experience and services to its guests,” said Igor Smirnoff, chief commercial officer of PressReader. “This is the first news service that solves the challenges of continuous access to a broadband network. Now guests can enjoy unlimited offline access to the latest publications at any time throughout their ocean journey.”

Based on a recent PressReader study about consumer reading habits, more than half of U.S. adults own a tablet and are reading their news on a mobile device. People now travel with their devices and having access to news is becoming an expectation while on land and at sea. PressReader Offline is a new digital solution designed specifically for the cruise industry to meet the needs of today’s cruise guests. This revolutionary service gives guests the luxury of reading same-day newspapers or enjoying a selection of magazines on their tablet or mobile smartphone anytime during the cruise – whether relaxing by the pool, eating breakfast deck side or lounging in their suite.

PressReader Offline technology offers a customizable solution to businesses that don’t have continuous access to a broadband network, such as an airline’s in-flight entertainment system or on cruise ships. Businesses customize their library of publications on a designated offline server and make them available to their consumers via the local Wi-Fi.
