SeaLink Travel Group (“SeaLink”) (ASX:SLK), today announced that it has secured new five year ferry contracts to operate ferry services from Townsville to Magnetic Island and Palm Island.

The Magnetic Island contract signed this week renews the current agreement for a further 5 years securing up to 18 return trips per day on the 20 minute ferry crossing from Townsville to Magnetic Island.

The Palm Island contract, also renewed for a further 5 years, increases the frequency from 4 to 5 trips per week as well as providing for additional services to cater for special events and sporting games.

SeaLink Travel Group Managing Director Mr Jeff Ellison said that the two new contracts secure over $9 million of revenue each year for the company.

“SeaLink Queensland plans a number of new investments in the region which include upgrading the Reef Cat ferry to provide and enhance customer experience and additional freight space, investment in the floating pontoon berth on Palm Island and adding an additional vessel to its Townsville fleet,” Mr Ellison said.

“We believe these new contracts secure SeaLink’s future in Queensland and we are optimistic of increasing visitors to both these islands.”

Mr Ellison said the current passenger numbers were encouraging to see and they reflected positive signs for tourism in the region.

He said SeaLink’s Sales and Marketing teams had been focused on growing passenger numbers to Magnetic Island and we are now able to provide long term transport security for both regular travelers and visitors.

SeaLink’s teams work in the International, Interstate and local markets promoting the company’s ferry, accommodation and activity packages.
