PATRICK Gibson, Palmer Coolum Resort’s resident golf professional, is poised to introduce a special lesson package for senior citizens who are looking to take up golf or simply improve their game.

The lessons are slated to begin in late November this year and will not only include golf tuition, but also injury prevention techniques to ensure it’s all gain and no pain for the senior students.

The four-week course is priced at just $88.00 per player and will feature one 60-minute mid-morning lesson per week. No equipment is required as use of all golf clubs and balls is included in the price.

Gibson, who is a highly credentialed and experienced golf coach, said the seniors’ lesson package is aimed at retirement age local residents (60+ for women, 65+ for men) who are seeking an introduction to golf or have a desire to revive their interest in the sport.

“It’s a great way for seniors to introduce themselves to golf, which as we all know is a game that has so many benefits on a number of levels,” Gibson said.

“Golf provides important gentle exercise; it’s outdoors in the fresh air among all our beautiful flora and fauna, and of course there’s the social element where people can get together and enjoy themselves.

“The exercise golf promotes is great for keeping the muscles flexible, as well as using important balance and motor skills. Older students who take up golf can play a reduced amount of holes if they feel the full eighteen is a bit too much, but they will still enjoy the benefits of golf and the challenges the game presents.

“The tuition will be specific to the needs of seniors and even though many of them will be learning new skills everything will be done in a relaxed and fun way. Lessons include stretching classes and we will show them ways to hit good golf shots safely and comfortably.

“All the equipment they need will be supplied so those who just want to try the game don’t have to outlay any money for clubs or balls. Get out there and have a go; it’s great fun and you’re never too old to try golf,” he said.
