Sensation, superstars, swimming and sport: events season in the city with the most visitors per resident

It now has more visitors per resident than any other city in the world. So what’s the secret to Dubai’s success? What is it that keeps Australian and New Zealand tourists flying through the gates of DXB? Look no further than the emirate’s August to October events line-up. If pop icon Lady Gaga wasn’t enough, the city is also set to play host to the globe’s largest dance event, Sensation, and the world-first exhibition of the most downloaded app ever, Angry Birds.

Sensation, 31st October, Meydan Racecourse: Following more than 100 successful indoor editions that have seen millions of revellers celebrate in more than 30 countries, Sensation is making its first trip to the region. Unveiling its first ever outdoor edition in Dubai, music lovers can expect an epic evening filled with spectacular lighting, entertainment and music. While the full line-up is yet to be announced, fans can look forward to world-class DJs and acts, and a strict dress code of white attire – transforming the venue into an ocean of white. Tickets start at 375 AED, and the event is offering special package deals including flights, one or two night hotel stays and transfers to the event so Australian and New Zealand visitors can experience Sensation while taking in all that the city of Dubai has to offer. Lady Gaga, September 10th, Meydan Racecourse: Especially for her Little Monsters in the Middle East, pop superstar Lady Gaga will dance her way to Dubai’s spectacular Meydan racecourse for a one-night only show in the city. Performing outdoors against a backdrop of the bright lights of the city, fans can get ready for a Gaga extravaganza as part of the global icon’s world tour, ArtRave: The Artpop Ball. Angry Birds Universe, 27th July – 8th September, Modhesh World: the #1 downloaded app of all time is flying its new travelling exhibition into the emirate for its world premiere. Showcasing the art and science of the global phenomenon, Angry Birds Universe touches down in Dubai’s family entertainment destination, Modhesh World, during July. Bringing the interactive fun of Angry Birds to life, it features a ‘body-on’ interactive journey enabling you to fly like your favourite characters from the game.

Disney On Ice, 10th – 13th September, Dubai World Trade Centre: Gliding into Dubai for the first time this September, the brand new spectacular of the ice skating extravaganza features scenes from Disney classics old and new, including BRAVE, Tangled, The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast. 2014 FIBA U17 World Championship for Men, 8th – 16th August, Hamdan Sports Complex:The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) is bouncing its 2014 U17 Basketball tournament to Dubai. Launched in 2010, the bi-annual sporting event invites the world’s most talented junior basketball teams to challenge each other on the court.

ONE FC 19 Dubai, 29th August – Dubai World Trade Centre:Asia’s largest mixed martial arts organisation is bringing its A Game to Dubai for the first ONE FC match ever to be held in the Middle East. The first time four fights have been played in one evening, ONE FC Welterweight World Champion Nobutatsu Suzuki will meet undefeated wrestling superstar Ben Askren, and others champions will defend their titles against top contenders.

FINA Swimming World Cup, 31st August – 1st September 2014, Hamdan Sports Complex: Making a splash in the city over two days at the end of August, the FINA Swimming World Cup is made up of a series of short course swimming meets. Open to all swimmers from the International Swimming Federation’s member countries, the preliminary rounds are held in the morning, and the finals in the evening – with the exception of the 800 and 1,500 metre freestyle races, which are swam as timed finals.

2014 Dubai Fitness & Performance Classic, 1st September – 4th September 2014, Dubai World Trade Centre:Continuing the fitness theme into September, the Dubai Fitness & Performance Classic takes place at Dubai World Trade Centre at the start of the month. Aiming to soon be one of the biggest events of its kind in the Middle East, the event will hold six contests over four action-packed days, including the IFBB Professional Body Building Contest and the Amateur Body Building Championship.
