Seoul’s Cheonggyecheon Stream is currently lighting up the city’s downtown area every evening with the return of the Seoul Lantern Festival, set to run until November 22nd.

Around 3 million people are expected to attend the 7th edition of the annual event, which includes a range of exciting programs and colorful lantern designs from all around the world. Business and leisure visitors in Seoul during this time are therefore actively encouraged to join in on the fun.

Under this year’s theme, “Illuminated Seoul Tour”, illuminations and activities are taking place every night between 5:00pm and 11pm along a 1.2km stretch of the Cheonggyecheon between Cheonggye Plaza and the Supyogyo Bridge. There, visitors will find different sections of the stream featuring lantern designs symbolizing ancient and modern Seoul. There are also digital lanterns, as well as lanterns related to local government agencies, corporations, international submissions, and pop culture.

Note that due to the popularity of the festival, large crowds are expected on weekends; international visitors therefore may prefer to stop by the Cheonggyecheon on weeknights. For a full run-down on festival activities, schedules, and locations, see the official Visit Seoul page.

The Seoul Lantern Festival is managed by the Seoul Tourism Organization and organized by the Joint Committee for the Seoul Lantern Festival.
