Seoul made a high-profile return to ITB Asia this year, which ran from October 21-23 at the Singapore Marina Bay Sands Expo Convention Center.
The event was attended by 10,300 industry professionals from 108 countries, with Seoul promoting the city’s powerful business events capabilities through a variety of meetings and initiatives.
ITB Asia is the Asia-Pacific’s largest annual travel trade show, and is regularly attended by top industry buyers and decision makers from the leisure, business events, and corporate sectors. This year’s attendees were 880 buyers and 760 exhibitors. Representing Seoul City was the Seoul Convention Bureau (SCB), a division of Seoul Tourism Organization.
On the first day of ITB, 80 key meeting industry buyers attended a special luncheon and Seoul presentation by SCB Executive Director, Maureen O’Crowley, the presentation outlined Seoul’s comprehensive services and support programs for international events hosted in the city.
Another significant ITB milestone for Seoul was the signing of an MOU between the Seoul Tourism Organization and Kenes MP Asia, a prominent professional convention organizer. With a long track record of successful Asia-Pacific events, the Geneva-based Kenes Group works annually on 3,000 events in over 100 global cities, including many involving the medical and science sectors – two industries that bring Seoul many international conferences. The agreement is expected to help bring more events to the city and further boost the already-strong capabilities of Seoul’s meetings industry.
Seoul also had a strong presence throughout the ITB venue, with the city sponsoring the buyer lounge across the event’s three-day run. The lounge featured video presentations on Seoul and related materials available on site, along with Seoul-sponsored coffee breaks for buyers and attendees.
Promotional banners were also displayed at the center, as were Seoul-themed advertisements on the escalators outside the expo hall.
Meeting professionals will have another opportunity to catch up with Seoul Tourism Organization staff at ibtm world 2015 in Barcelona.
