As the world’s most beautiful women converge in glamorous cities across the globe for A/W 2018 Fashion Weeks, Babbel has turned the spotlight on seven extraordinary supermodels who have shown the world they have both beauty and brains. http://www.granmonte.com/

Racking up languages faster than Vogue covers; these women are living proof that there’s more to them than just a pretty face.

1. Gisele Bündchen Brazilian born Gisele is a native Portuguese speaker, but has picked up an impressive five additional languages from her travels abroad as a model: English, French, Italian, Spanish and German. An avid Musik (music in German) lover, she credits old Boyz II Men and Mariah Carey cassette tapes for helping her to become fluent in English. While her American husband is monolingual, she’s raising her children to be fluent in both Portuguese and English.

2. Candice Swanepoel Born in South Africa to an Afrikaner family of Dutch descent, Candice Swanepoel is a native English and Afrikaans speaker. With the help of her namorado brasilerio (Brazilian partner in Portuguese), she’s also mastered the language. Mum to a 2-year-old boy and another little one on the way, there’s no doubt her children will be similarly raised in a bilingual home.

3. Helena Christensen With a Peruvian mother and a Danish father, Helena Christensen grew up in a multilingual home where everyone spoke a bit of English, Spanish and Danish. As a student, she learned another two languages: French and German. A true lover of languages, Helena believes in the power of words – that a word in one language is better able to convey an emoción (emotion in Spanish) or topic compared to the same word in another language.

4. Jessica Hart Australian supermodel Jessica Hart decided to learn French as a way to connect with her multilingual partner at the time. While she’s since bid adieu (goodbye in French) to the billionaire shipping heir, thanks to her linguistic skills, she’ll always have Paris (and French).

5. Megan Gale Fellow Australian actress and model Megan Gale was thrust into the spotlight after appearing in an Italian telecommunications commercial. Her newfound fame saw her to move to Milan and Rome where she learned the native language. As an English speaker, Megan initially faticato (struggled in Italian) to learn the language, but became fluent as she began to book more radio and public speaking engagements.

6. Milla Jovovich Born in Kiev, Milica “Milla“ Jovovich grew up bilingual and has since added another two languages to her skills. Besides her native Russian and Serbian (her mother is Russian from the Ukraine and her father Serbian from Montenegro), the model and actress is fluent in English and – since being married for two years with French film director Luc Besson – has maîtrisé (mastered) French, too.

7. Adriana Karembeu The slovak supermodel, actress, tv presenter and former Guinness World Record holder for the longest legs among female models was talent spotted while studying medicine in Prague. In addition to her extraordinary career, she has an extraordinary aptitude for languages. Adriana speaks six languages: Slovakian, Czech, Russian, French (she was married to French football player Christian Karembeu), Spanish (she lived in Madrid for a while) and English. Today, she is married to an Armenian businessman and lives in Morocco. It probably won’t be a surprise then if she is soon speaking ﺛﻤﺎﻧﯿﺔ (eight in arabic) languages.
