On Tuesday 3rd September, a Seychelles Tourism Academy delegation comprising of the Principal Mr. Flavien Joubert, the Senior Quality Assurance Officer Ms. Diana Quatre and the Students’ Affairs Coordinator Ms. Monique Hoareau, went on a working trip to Praslin.

The aim of the trip was to strengthen existing and build new partnerships in a bid to obtain opportunities for the students and staff of the island’s Tourism Academy.

SONY DSCThe delegation’s first stop was at Raffles Praslin where they were warmly welcomed by the new GM Mr. Christophe Ganster as well as the Director of Human Resources Mr. Walter Borosa. At the end of the fruitful meeting which was followed by a tour of their staff accommodation ‘Pti Lavil’, the two parties were willing to sign an MoU which will lead to a close and lucrative working relationship between the two organizations.

The MoU will communicate the willingness of Raffles Praslin to accept the Tourism Academy’s returning Shannon Graduates at their establishment and provide them with a clear career path. Raffles Praslin will also offer Management training to keen Seychelles Tourism Academy graduates. Their Executives will come to Tourism Academy to share their experience to the students and staff and the Tourism Academy lecturers will have the opportunity to go and improve their skills through work experience at Raffles. In exchange, Raffles Praslin will be able to send their staff to the Tourism Academy to make use of the new language lab (available as from 2014) as well as enroll them in the In-Service Management Course which Tourism Academy will launch in 2014.  The Seychelles Tourism Academy students (especially those on Praslin) will be able to make use of some of the facilities at the hotel itself and the staff accommodation for educational purposes. In terms of International students, Raffles Praslin has shown willingness to accommodate some of them and to provide them with placement. The Tourism Academy will be in charge of these students’ general well-being as is the case for local students. The MoU is expected to be signed end of September 2013.

La Reserve was the delegation’s next stop. The GM, Mr. Jean-Paul Barallon was fully supportive of the vision of the Tourism Academy. He was more than happy to assist with placement for our Graduates as well as the Academy’s students going for work experience. He would also like to open his doors to exchange students. Mr. Barallon was generous enough to offer new modules as teaching and learning packages to the Academy.

The final stop was at the Constance Lemuria Resort where a brief but productive meeting was held. The Lemuria team comprised of the GM, Mr. Bruno Le Gac, the Food and Beverage Manager Mr. Carofano, the Training Coordinator Ms. Mica Kimai and the Human Resource Manager Ms. Daniella Arissol. Mr. Joubert informed them about the opportunities of having exchange students at their establishment. It was to be noted that their interest was genuine. Mr. Le Gac took the opportunity to ask about the possibility to have some of the Management students to work at Lemuria. He showed real enthusiasm in having those sorts of talents at his establishment. He was given reassurance that he will be contacted for placement once these students return.

The Seychelles Tourism Academy delegation was satisfied after their trip and continues to firmly believe in working collaboratively with the Industry for its success as well as that of Seychelles.
