Seychelles Tourism Board chief appears on SABC and Millions in Southern Africa learn about the Seychelles

The Seychelles as a holiday destination’s profile has further been uplifted now that the Seychelles Tourism Board’s Chief Executive Officer, Sherin Naiken, has appeared on South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) television.

SABC interviewMiss Naiken – who has spent the last week on the East3Route expedition through Mozambique, Swaziland and South Africa – was given a prime time slot on SABC TV channel to talk about Seychelles’ involvement in the East3Route initiative. East3Route is an initiative that Seychelles joined last year aimed at boosting tourism and related investment between the three partner nations; South Africa, Mozambique and Swaziland.

The live SABC interview took place late last week, at the Richard’s Bay Yacht Club, covering several aspects of the East3Route initiative including future plans for its financing and investment strategies as well as Seychelles’ involvement.

During the interview on the popular TV channel Miss Naiken gave her opinion on the progress East3Route has so far as well as voice her strong support for future plans to expand the scope of its drive.

Her time on air was also an excellent opportunity to further raise Seychelles’ international profile in the media came in the wake of several popular addresses the CEO made during the course of the expedition. In addition to the interview, Miss Naiken also addressed the East3Route investment forum which took place in Swaziland and was televised live.

“This SABC interview helps to put us on the map and fill the knowledge gap about our islands which is a crucial component of our visibility, as we study the East3Route terrain to see how we may best take advantage of the opportunities it offers,” she said.

To note the SABC which receives funding through both license fees and advertising broadcasts on three domestic channels; with a mixed entertainment and public service mandate. Recent figures show that SABC 1 is the most popular and watched television channel in South Africa with a weekly viewership of 22 million. SABC 2 comes in second with 18.8 million and SABC 3 pulls in 14.9 viewers weekly – large figures bound to get people in the Southern African region noticing Seychelles.

Alain St.Ange, the seychelles Minister responsible for Tourism and Culture congratulated the CEO of the Seychelles Tourism Board for her her show on SABC TV in South Africa. “We are the friendly neighbor of South Africa and with only water of the Indian Ocean in between us. Seychelles is known in South Africa as being the idyllic destination for their holidays. Your appearance on SABC TV will help to increase our visibility and keep us being relevant as a tourism destination for South Africans and for the people of Southern Africa as a whole” said Minister St.Ange
