Seychelles’ tourism further positioned in the minds of North American travellers at the 2017 Africa Showcase roadshow

Seychelles was once again represented at the Africa Showcase roadshow – a travel trade event in North America focusing exclusively on promoting Africa.

The annual event, held for the 9th consecutive year, consists of a series of workshops in the United States of America and Canada.

The 2017 Africa Showcase roadshow has been the perfect opportunity for Seychelles to exhibit its products as the exotic destination continues to look to the USA and Canada to increase visitor numbers from North Africa.

The Seychelles Tourism Board’s Regional Director for Africa & the Americas, David Germain, joined representatives of other Africa destinations to attend a series of workshops from September 7 to 13, 2017.

The first workshop was held at the Key Bridge Marriott Hotel in the US capital, Washington DC, followed by the second at the Marriott Bloor, Yorkville Hotel in Toronto, Canada, ending with one at the Marina Del Rey in Los Angeles, California.

The Africa Showcase roadshow is organized by On Show Solutions — a South African company that deliver roadshows and exhibitions, in partnership with South African Airways.

The event has evolved into one of the largest travel events featuring exclusively African products, providing travel sellers with the latest information and tools designed to boost their sales to Africa and the Indian Ocean islands.

Gathering over 600 participants, the trade show features over 30 exhibitors from various African and Indian Ocean nations.

Mr. Germain said: “Seychelles continued participation in the Africa Showcase roadshow provides the Seychelles Tourism Board (STB) with direct access to a considerable amount of African Travel Specialist in the United States and Canada, those travel trade partners who are actively selling Africa and the Indian ocean islands, educating new agents as well about destination Seychelles to better sell the Islands.”

The STB is very much encouraged by the steady increase in visitor arrivals from North America and the Americas in general. According to figures from the National Bureau of Statistics, 11,195 visitors from America has come to Seychelles to date in 2017. This represents an increase of 62 percent over the 2016 figures for the same period.

The figure for USA stands at 7,237 visitors, which is 50 percent above the 2016 arrival numbers from that market.

Seychelles is today more known to the affluent North American travellers than in the last decade and the current visitor arrival figures from the Americas to the island destination confirm that the North American market is one with great potential.
