Monday, 18 July 2016, is the last day of service for one of the city’s legendary Chinese dining establishments, Shang Palace at Shangri-La Hotel, Jakarta, as the restaurant will undergo significant refurbishment after 22 years of service.
The restaurant will become a new Chinese dining establishment with a fresh and new concept for the next generation to indulge in. Shang Palace’s classic Chinese interior, which gives the restaurant a rich Oriental influence, will be fully renovated into a contemporary Chinese concept, infused with a touch of Indonesian culture.
The new restaurant will serve popular Chinese dishes with a touch of local flavours when it reopens by the end of 2016. Beijing Duck, slow-roasted and succulent whole Peking Duck served with thin crepe-like Lotus Leaf Pancakes, hoisin sauce and finely sliced green onions, will become the new restaurant’s signature dish. Guests can enjoy the experience of rolling the duck in pancake the Beijing way and personalising the filling while the chef slices the freshly roasted duck on the table-side.
The wide variety of all-time favourite dim sum delicacies will also be back with a refreshing concept to satisfy dim sum lovers. The new restaurant aims to satisfy and delight Chinese culinary seekers with a unique Chinese and Indonesian concept.
An exclusive closing ceremony marked the restaurant’s last service on Monday, 18 July 2016. In attendance were loyal Shang Palace guests, high-profile clients and Shang Rewards members. Apart from the closing ceremony, guests also witnessed the 24-carat Golden Moon Cake charity auction.
At the end of the evening, guests took home the Shang Palace signature XO Sauce and a set of postcards brimming with fond memories of Shang Palace as a memento of the restaurant’s journey throughout the years. Apart from receiving the “memories”, guests attending the closing ceremony were also given limited-edition tickets to an exclusive preview of the future renovated restaurant and be the first ones to taste and experience its cuisine.
