As London looks to summer, Shangri-La Hotel, At The Shard, London announces a series of enticing events to be staged on the outdoor terrace of LÁNG, the hotel’s artisan deli and cake shop on the ground floor.
RHS Chelsea Flower Show and Floral Garden Afternoon Tea
From 18 to 24 May 2015, a slice of SW10 will be served with Shangri-La’s signature Asian flair when LÁNG’s terrace transforms into a stunning floral garden in celebration of the esteemed RHS Chelsea Flower Show. Designed by the hotel’s skilled florist, Laura Kuy, many of the selected blooms on display will either originate from Asia or be locally sourced, reflecting the hotel’s ‘East meets West’ character. The combination of sweet aromas from the expert floral arrangements, including jasmine, peonies, Kent-sourced lavender and hydrangeas, fused with the subtle scents of LÁNG’s extensive tea offering will make for an exquisite afternoon al fresco.
Alongside the floral display, an exclusive Floral Garden Afternoon Tea will be served within LÁNG’s terrace and feature a beautiful selection of blossom-themed patisseries, including Raspberry and Rose Cream Éclairs, Lavender Cream Tarts and Violet Mousse Macaroons. Delicate finger sandwiches and lavender-infused scones will also be available
The Floral Garden Afternoon Tea will be served from 11 to 24 May 2015 and priced at £30 per person. The floral garden will be showcased from 18 to 24 May 2015 only.
Swinging into a summer of sport, LÁNG’s terrace brings a taste of Wimbledon – widely considered as the most prestigious grand slam in tennis – to Shangri-La guests. From 26 June to 12 July 2015, the tournament will be broadcast live on the astro turf-transformed terrace with a fun selection of Wimbledon-inspired patisseries served. Specially created cakes will include Centre Court, a lemon mousse tart; SW19, a Pimm’s jelly atop cream; and Grand Slam, a tennis ball-designed creation with champagne and strawberry filling. Alongside the themed trio, guests will also be invited to enjoy tournament classics, strawberries with cream, Pimm’s and champagne.
LÁNG’s Wimbledon cakes start at £7 per piece to eat-in and at £5.90 to take-away.
Summer Gin Terrace
Throughout August, in keeping with the hotel’s continued commitment to promoting local produce, Shangri-La has teamed up with local gin distillery Jensen’s in Bermondsey to unveil a month-long Summer Gin Terrace at LÁNG. Specially designed to celebrate all things summer, the terrace will serve sharing pitchers and punches of gin-and-tea-infused delights alongside gin-infused cakes, ice lollies and non-alcoholic varieties for younger guests.
Jensen’s two unique gin blends, Bermondsey London Dry and Old Tom, are historical recipes that use only classic gin botanicals. They celebrate the traditional style of old London-made gins; the Bermondsey Dry emulating gins of the mid-20th century, and the Old Tom using an original recipe from the 1840s. The tea-infusions will be made from the hotel’s own signature tea blends and perfectly chilled to complement the last of the summer heat.
