Shangri-La Hotel, Beijing Participates in Earth Hour 2014

Shangri-La Hotel, Beijing announces its participation in Earth Hour, a global event organised by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), for the sixth consecutive year. 
Between 8 and 10 p.m. on 29 March 2014, Shangri-La Hotel, Beijing will stop the turnstiles and escalators, and dim or turn off the lights in public areas, restaurants, bars, shops, guestroom corridors, back-of-house areas, staff activity areas and on the hotel façade. In addition, the bed sheets and towels in guestrooms will not be changed unless requested by guests. Diners are encouraged to use warm towels or fabric napkins, instead of tissue napkins to reduce paper consumption in an effort to contribute to environmental protection.

To encourage room guests to participate in the event, the Lobby Lounge and Cloud Nine Bar on the first floor of the hotel will have a Happy Hour Earth Week. Between 6 and 10 p.m. from 23 to 29 March 2014, guests who visit the Lobby Lounge or Cloud Nine Bar will be able to enjoy a free Earth Hour-themed cocktail, courtesy of the hotel.

Shangri-La Hotel, Beijing is committed to implementing hotel-wide measures to mitigate climate change, highlighted during Earth Hour, but practised across daily operations. The first hotel in mainland China to receive ISO 14001 certification for environmental protection, Shangri-La Hotel, Beijing has a well-established “Green Plan.” Staff are encouraged to participate in a wide range of activities designed to build their knowledge on environmental protection and various eco-friendly measures have been implemented across the property. These include the installation of energy-saving light bulbs and LED lighting, the use of water-saving devices and various recycling programmes. The hotel achieves significant savings on energy consumption through these measures.
