Shangri-La Hotel, Sydney will celebrate a kaleidoscope of Taiwanese stories, flavours and traditions at “A Taste of Taiwan” Food Festival at Café Mix from 20 to 28 October 2017.

The festival will pay homage to the versatile aromas of Taiwanese cuisine where guests will enjoy vibrant food created by guest chefs from Shangri-La’s Far Eastern Plaza Hotel, Taipei who have flown in for the second year.

Taiwanese cuisine has many culinary influences, including the mid to southern provinces of China, particularly from the province of Fujian.

Sharp-tasting dishes will take centre stage, including Gua Bao, Spicy Hotpot, Oyster Omelette, Wanluan Braised Pork Knuckle and Bamboo Shoot Salad.  Sydneysiders will also delight in a dessert station celebrating traditional favourites, including Soybean Pudding, Fruity Bubble Tea and Deep-Fried Sesame Balls.

The sub-tropical islands of Taiwan are known for their plentiful supply of fruits, including papayas, melons, starfruit and citrus fruit, as well as significant agricultural products, including corn, pork, poultry, beef and fish, making each mouthful a sensory journey of regional Taiwanese specialities.

Shangri-La Hotel, Sydney’s Executive Chef Hemant Dadlani is delighted to collaborate with Taipei’s maestros of Taiwanese cuisine.

“The Taiwanese show their creativity in their selection of spices, particularly relying on pungent seasonings for flavour, such as soy sauce, rice wine, peanuts and chilli peppers.  Our guest chefs will showcase dishes which will see true Taiwanese culture brought to life,” Chef Dadlani said.

The Taiwanese Food Festival is presented in partnership with Taipei Economic and Cultural Office Sydney, Friends of Taiwan in Australia and the Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce in Australia.

Café Mix has fast become known as a home for international food festivals and sumptuous seafood selections.  “A Taste of Taiwan” Food Festival is available from Monday to Sunday during the buffet lunch from noon to 2:30 p.m. at $55 per person and from Sunday to Thursday during the buffet dinner from 6 to 10:30 p.m.  The seafood buffet dinner is available from Friday to Saturday from 6 to 10:30 p.m. at $85 per person.
