Shangri-La Hotel, Toronto and Shangri-La Hotel, Vancouver have both received the AAA Five Diamond Award® designation for 2015, the travel authority’s highest rating for hotels and restaurants.

This is the first year that Shangri-La Hotel, Toronto and the third consecutive year that Shangri-La Hotel, Vancouver have been awarded this esteemed ranking.

According to AAA, properties at this level require experienced, highly qualified staff to provide the custom service today’s luxury hotel guest expects. These establishments deliver unmatched guest comfort with luxurious accommodations, extraordinary facilities and many personalized amenities.

“We are very honoured to receive the Five Diamond recognition for our two Canadian properties,” said Richard Cooke, area general manager of Shangri-La Hotel, Toronto and Shangri-La Hotel, Vancouver. “This award is a testament to the efforts and tireless commitment of the entire teams at both hotels who demonstrate integrity, innovation and take initiative every day, to ensure each and every guest feels our special kind of hospitality; hospitality from the heart.”

Shangri-La Hotel, Toronto and Shangri-La Hotel, Vancouver are part of a select group representing the upper echelon of the hospitality industry in North America. Fewer than one-half percent of more than 29,000 properties approved by AAA achieve this prestigious distinction.

Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts’ first properties in North America, both Shangri-La Hotel, Vancouver and Shangri-La Hotel, Toronto, have achieved key milestones since bringing Shangri-La’s renowned Asian hospitality to the west. As the flagship property for North America, Shangri-La Hotel, Vancouver stands proudly as the tallest building in Western Canada, in a 62-storey landmark building that punctuates the city’s skyline. Internationally acclaimed Michelin three-star chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten chose Vancouver as the location for MARKET by Jean-Georges, his first restaurant in Canada. Most recently, the hotel was named the best city hotel in Canada by the readers of Travel + Leisure Magazine (US) in their 2014 World’s Best Awards.

In September 2012, Shangri-La Hotel, Toronto opened in Canada’s largest metropolis, just in time for the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). With great pride for its roots, and as the only Asian luxury hotel brand in Toronto, the hotel has sponsored TIFF’s Asian Film Summit for three consecutive years, supporting building bridges between Asian and Western cinema. It is the only hotel in Canada to be listed as having one of the world’s most beautiful pools by Condé Nast Traveler in 2013. In 2014, the hotel introduced two exclusive experiences for locals and guests alike, the first being Toronto’s only custom Champagne Wall, stocked with an extensive selection of the most prominent and rare champagnes. It is also the first hotel in North America to use E-Hybrid Porsche Panamera’s as the hotel’s house car.

“Attaining the Five Diamond rating is not an easy undertaking,” said Michael Petrone, director of AAA Tourism Information Development. “Establishments at this level must consistently provide an unparalleled guest environment and experience. AAA is pleased to recognize Shangri-La hotels in Toronto and Vancouver for receiving the coveted Five Diamond Rating.”
