Emil Leung was appointed general manager of Shangri-La’s Far Eastern Plaza Hotel, Taipei this month. Leung has more than 20 years of hotel management experience. Prior to joining the hotel, where he started his career with Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts, he was the area general manager of China World Hotel, Beijing and in charge of the whole operations and services for three hotels, namely, China World Hotel, Beijing; China World Summit Wing, Beijing; and Traders Hotel, Beijing. He had been part of the Shangri-La group’s pre-opening projects in Tainan and Shenzhen before he became area manager and general manager of Futian Shangri-La, Shenzhen
in 2010. Before that, he was the general manager at Shangri-La Hotel, Zhongshan in 2005 after joining the group for the first time as director of rooms at Shangri La’s Far Eastern Plaza Hotel, Taipei in 1995.
Leung graduated from Hong Kong Polytechnic University, majoring in hotel hospitality management. He has held management positions within Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts in Singapore, Dalian, Shenzhen and Zhongshan. Prior to joining the group, he held senior management positions at the Mandarin Oriental in Hong Kong and the Grand Hyatt in both Taipei and Macau. In addition to having over 20 years of operational experience in the hospitality industry, he was named one of the “Top 10 Prominent Youth in the Chinese Hotel Industry” by Global Hotel magazine in 2007. In 2014, he was awarded “Best General Manager of the Year” at the Golden Pillow Award and, in the same year, received the “Golden Leader Award for the Outstanding General Manager in China Hotel Industry 2014”. He was also named one of the “Best General Managers of China” at the 10th China Hotel Starlight Awards.
