Shangri-La’s Fijian Resort & Spa formally handed over the keys for a newly renovated kitchen and sewing room, to the management of the Sigatoka School for Special Needs today. The space which was renovated at a cost of F$12,000 was handed over by Shangri-La’s Fijian Resort & Spa General Manager, Mr Francis Lee. The new facility will be used for vocational training for students at the school.

The works are part of an ongoing 5-year commitment by the resort under its Embrace Care for People project. Under the programme the resort supports three schools in Cuvu district including the Sigatoka School for Special Education, Cuvu District School and Nadroumai Primary School.

“We are so delighted to support this project with our Sigatoka School for Special Needs as it will help the students undergo vocational training and open up job opportunities for them,” said Shangri-La’s Fijian Resort & Spa General Manager, Mr Francis Lee.  “We are also proud to announce that we will be employing a former student of the school and we look forward to welcoming him into our team soon,” Mr Lee said.

Shangri-La’s Fijian Resort & Spa helped fundraise for the cost of works for the last two years during a series of fundraisers through the Sigatoka School for Special Education Riverside Fairs. All money raised during the riverside fairs was used to carry out works at the school which has been closely linked to the resort for over 40 years.

“We have had an ongoing relationship with the Sigatoka School for Special Needs for decades even though this was formalised only a few years ago through our Embrace Care for People project,” Mr Lee said. “Our role has always been to facilitate and help build on the fantastic work done by the management and staff at the school and it is such an honour for us to be allowed to assist,” Mr Lee said.
