Following the Department of Tourism’s roll-out of its new star-rating system, Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort & Spa, Cebu officially received its five-star accreditation from the agency last October 2016. It is notably the only resort in Cebu to receive the accolade, maintaining its position as the region’s premier hospitality institution.
As released by the Department of Tourism, the new rating system assesses the property based on service, hospitality, efficiency and food, on top of the quality of facilities. It is meant to provide travelers with a government-mandated evaluation of their preferred accommodation.
“The renowned Shangri-La hospitality has always been about providing an overall excellent experience. We are simply thrilled to receive this rating. It inspires and motivates us to continuously create exemplary moments for our guests,” said General Manager René D. Egle.
Established in 1993, Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort & Spa, Cebu is a sprawling 13-hectare resort fronting a scenic 350-meter beach cove. It is home to 530 luxurious guestrooms, extensive dining options, an array of outdoor recreational facilities and CHI, The Spa, one of the largest spa villages in Asia.
Since its opening, the resort has received domestic and international acclaim, including ranking seventh among the “Top Resorts in Asia” and named one of the “Top 50 Best Resorts in the World” at the recently released 29th Condé Nast Traveler’s Readers Choice Awards.
