Wine gourmands have an excellent reason to visit Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort & Spa, Cebu on May 19, as the premier leisure destination hosts an evening of exceptional tastes in a wine pairing dinner at the resort’s poolside Italian restaurant, Acqua. It will feature an array of classics paired with the Laurus selection of winemaker Gabriel Meffre.
“Laurus” means laurel in Latin and is the Roman symbol of excellence. Rightly so, this inspired collection is a prime example of such, with its rich consistency perfected by the growers of Rhone Valley – a thriving wine region in the south of France. Aurelien Darzac from the famed winery will join the dinner to share more about the rich Laurus tradition with guests.
The dinner will begin with Grilled Octopus with Chickpea and Spring Onions, served with a 2014 Gabriel Meffre Laurus Viognier. It is then followed with Ricotta Cheese and Spinach Tortelli, an exquisite match to the 2012 Gabriel Meffre Laurus Hermitage.
The evening’s highlight is the main course, a slice of succulent Beef Fillet with Marsala Wine and Shallot together with the strong, sanguine note of the 2012 Gabriel Meffre Laurus Saint-Joseph.
Next is Taleggio Cheese with Roasted Pear and Walnut Pesto, paired with a 2012 Gabriel Meffre Laurus Chateauneuf Du Pape. The dinner culminates with a Crunchy Almond Parfait with Warm Chocolate Sauce with the option to pair it with a 2014 Gabriel Meffre Laurus Muscat Beaumes De Venise.
