Shangri-La’s Tanjung Aru Resort & Spa’s (L to R) Director of Engineering Ewan Yap, Service Leader – Corporate Social Responsibility Joyce Murang, Chief Stewarding Sofie Amit and Assistant Training Manager Peter Dundang proudly show off the resort’s latest win – the prestigious Prime Minister’s Hibiscus Award 2014/2015.

The four are amongst the many staff in the resort who had worked hard to ensure that the resort retained the environmental award after participating and winning it for 16 consecutive years.
The resort’s Director of Communications Claudina Wong received the award from Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Dato Sri Dr. Haji Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar during the award presentation ceremony recently.
The award recognizes the resort’s commitment to conserve and preserve the environment through the maintenance of a series of environmental programmes and instilling a sense of environmental responsibility amongst its 700 management and staff and the community. The resort was judged in terms of the benefit of its environmental programme to employees and the environment, the effect on the community, creating and maintaining the awareness of environmental conservation and the overall effectiveness of the environmental programme.
“It is definitely an encouragement and appreciation to what we have been doing for the community and environment. We believe in working together for an environmentally sustainable future and appreciate if all organisations could do the same. It also reflects on the resort’s commitment in protecting our environment through the environmental programme and the staff’s dedication and contribution. Environmental practices have now become a part of the resort’s culture,” said Andrew den Oudsten, general manager of Shangri-La’s Tanjung Aru Resort & Spa, Kota Kinabalu.
The Prime Minister’s Hibiscus Award is jointly organized by Malaysia’s leading private sector non-profit organisations concerned with corporate environmental management and performance since 1996.
The award presents an opportunity for public recognition of business and industry’s environmental accomplishment and leadership and serves to create environmental awareness amongst enterprises that have yet to demonstrate environmental stewardship.
