Boutique Mauritian resort, Shanti Maurice, is celebrating the ancient practices of Ayurveda with the launch of their first “Ayurvedic Yoga Journey” retreat. Set to run throughout November 2015, the 5, 7 and 14 day dedicated programmes will educate guests on the traditional Hindu medicine systems, uniting these methods with specialised Yogic practice and nutrition.
Taking place at Shanti Maurice’s “Nira Spa”, specialised programmes are tailored to suit all levels and will provide guests with Ayurvedic teachings to tackle common ailments including stress and obesity. Creating an overall wellness routine, the programmes are specifically tailored by the Shanti Maurice doctor to suit each individual, based on their “dosha” (body type), as well as their emotional, physical and spiritual state. Lead by Shanti Maurice’s expert Yogi, guests will receive morning lectures on the Yoga Sutras and how to apply them to their daily lives before participating in a number of guided yogic practices to support harmonious living.
Various healing traditions, carried out throughout the programme, embody Shanti Maurice’s organic philosophy, harnessing every element of wellness, from enhanced spirituality to re-energising remedies. Authentic treatments such as four handed Abyangha Massage sees the body doused in warm oil while the Shanti Dhara massage clears the flow of energy through the body through synchronised massage and Chakra oil dripping. The specially developed wellness programme includes daily healing Agnihotra (fire ceremony), helping to relieve tension and aid circulation.
Beachfront yoga, pranayama teachings and powerful meditation practices, such as music mantra meditation, not only achieve results, but can be easily maintained by applying techniques learnt into daily routines once leaving the resort.
Following the retreat philosophy, guests will be introduced to Ayurvedic cuisine, learning to use food as medicine to support the body, through a selection of nutrition workshops. Focusing on vegetarian, nutrient-rich super foods, to energise the body, menus see daily fresh Ayurvedic meals served with ingredients sourced from local farms. Combined with yogic practice the cuisine is designed to naturally detoxify, leaving the body lighter, refreshed and rejuvenated.
Active guests can also take advantage of the paddle board yoga, Watsu, aqua aerobics, pilates, jogging, fusion fitness and yoga bike tour on offer at Shanti Maurice. Shanti Maurice is set within a coral cove on the largely untouched south coast of Mauritius. Renowned for its sincere, heartfelt and attentive service, the boutique resort caters to the nomadic, bohemian-chic traveller.
