Shark in rock pool amazes Sydney swimmers

September 12, 2017 Headline News No Comments Email Email

What’s this, a shark in the pool? There was a real shark, complete with trademark dorsal fin, in residence in a rock pool at Manly Beach yesterday, as the pictures show – but there was a good reason.

The shark was moved there temporarily, after swimming ashore on the beach, apparently ill with a possible broken jaw.

About 1.5-metres long, the shark washed up about noon, ABC News reported. People spotting it in the shallows got their children out of the water – fast.

The shark kept beaching itself on the sand and eventually staff from the Manly Sea Life Sanctuary came to the rescue, using a special sling to rescue the animal and transfer it to the nearby Fairy Bower Pool, where it was being monitored late yesterday afternoon.

Aquatic experts are checking on it this morning to see whether it’s well enough to be released. In the meantime, it’s attracting quite an audience.
