Shitbox Rally breaks through $1 million for Cancer Council

Shitbox Rally, the largest private Cancer Council fundraiser in Australia, has broken through a fundraising milestone, having already raised $1 million in this year’s rally for Cancer Council to date.

This year the rally aims to raise $1.4 million for cancer prevention and research. With only 24 days to go until 250 teams take to the Australian outback on an arduous route driving from Perth to Darwin over seven days, Shitbox Rally is well on it’s way to surpassing it’s largest fundraising target to date.

Now in it’s fifth year, Shitbox Rally has raised over $3.9 million for cancer research. The fundraising efforts from the rally’s teams and sponsors has significantly contributed to advances in cancer research, leading to better survival rates for a cause that affects so many Australians.

Shitbox Rally was founded in 2009 by James Freeman after both of his parents died from cancer within 12 months of each other. It offers participants a chance to meet like-minded people through a unique and supportive experience, incorporating our vast and beautiful country. The rally is not a race but rather a challenge to achieve the unthinkable: to drive cars worth $1000 or less across Australia via some of its most deserted and testing roads.

Rocky canyons, dusty ranges and lush waterfalls make for the perfect backdrop for what’s set to be one of the most challenging rallies yet, as 500 participants depart from Perth on Saturday 31st May. The rally will see the teams head north stopping by Meekatharra, Marble Bar and Broome before heading into The Kimberly and the top end.

Alongside the participants are the partners that ensure Shitbox Rally receives the support needed to focus on the more important aspects of the rally. From first aid kits generously donated by Give Life Centre; the well-built Australian owned Move Yourself Trailers for the many breakdowns along the way; the leading Australian aerial video-photography Coptercam to document the visual showcase of the rally; to the fundraising finale of the Shitbox Rally car auction kindly organised by Australia’s leading car auction company Manheim. The cars will be auctioned off to add additional funding for vital Cancer Council research initiatives.

In the final weeks leading into the rally, teams will be ramping up their fundraising efforts to raise the requirement of $4000 for Shitbox Rally in exchange for the opportunity to aid cancer research, build lifelong friendships with like-minded individuals and experience some of Australia’s most vast and untainted country.

Shitbox Rally takes to the road over seven days from May 31st to June 6th 2014, with a new route through the Australian outback. For further information or to support the cause with a donation, visit or
